"Phonograph Years" Sound Museum

The "Phonograph Years" Sound Museum is a small museum located on Caodui Street in the Macao Special Administrative Region, established by Tai Ping Electrical Company, a relatively large local electrical appliance company in Macao. The Phonograph Years Sound Museum opened on December 4, 2002, to share the history of the phonograph and the development of audio equipment with enthusiasts.

The first floor of the museum mainly features electric audio equipment, while the 0th floor houses ancient manual audio devices. The antique exhibits were collected from around the world, and some of them can still operate manually without any power or light source. There are over two hundred exhibits, including: the first-generation cylinder phonograph, the world’s first cassette recorder, bakelite 78 rpm records, tabletop hand-cranked organs, hand-cranked music boxes, hand-cranked telephones, vacuum tube radios, transistor radios, recording devices from World War II, rotary spherical fluorescent screen televisions, coin-operated jukeboxes, and record players for vinyl records. The exhibits at the "Phonograph Years" Sound Museum bear witness to — over a hundred years of audio equipment development history, from manual operation to electric-powered devices.
