Free audio guides for a hassle-free exploration of Macau’s UNESCO World Heritage sites

Traveling abroad to visit world-famous historical landmarks, but worried about high rental prices or language barriers when renting an audio guide? Starting now, visitors to Macau can rent audio guide players at the tourist information center in Senado Square. The players offer six languages including Chinese and English. By paying a deposit of 200 Macanese Patacas (approximately 780 New Taiwan Dollars), you can use the device for three consecutive days, allowing you to easily stroll through Macau’s Historic Centre and nearby attractions. The rental service is available daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the full deposit will be refunded upon returning the player. Additionally, dedicated audio guide services are also available at the Grand Prix Museum and the Wine Museum, where visitors can borrow and return the devices on-site.

The free audio guide service provided by the Macau Government Tourism Office includes six languages: Chinese, Cantonese, Portuguese, English, Japanese, and Korean, allowing travelers to gain a deeper understanding of Macau’s historical background while exploring its ancient sites. The content and routes covered by the audio guide include: Introduction to Macau, Senado Square, Leal Senado Building, Macau Post Office Building, Holy House of Mercy Building, Three Lanes and Seven Streets Meeting Hall, St. Dominic’s Church, Cathedral, Lou Kau Mansion, Old City Walls Ruins, A-Ma Temple, Fortaleza do Monte, Ruins of St. Paul’s, Protestant Cemetery, Headquarters of the Oriental Foundation, and St. Anthony’s Church.

In addition, starting from August 4th, art and cultural performances such as Miao ethnic handicraft exhibitions, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre’s “Nine Songs,” and a sketch exhibition by British painter George Chinnery will be held successively at the Lou Kau Mansion, Macao Cultural Centre, and Macao Museum of Art. The Miao ethnic handicraft exhibition will showcase traditional crafts from China’s Guizhou ethnic minorities, including Anshun wood carvings, which are recognized as part of the “National Intangible Cultural Heritage,” as well as a variety of uniquely shaped ethnic dolls. “Nine Songs” is a classic masterpiece by choreographer Lin Hwai-min, combining mythology, poetry, and dance into an ancient ritual and modern dance performance. George Chinnery, hailed as the most influential Western painter in the East during the 19th century, has his sketches featured in this exhibition—drawings he created while living in Macau, depicting portraits, local life scenes, and church architecture.
