Traveling abroad to visit world-famous historical landmarks, but worried about high prices or language barriers when renting an audio guide? Starting now, visitors to Macau can rent an audio guide player at the tourist information center in Senado Square. The device offers content in six languages including Chinese and English. Just pay a deposit of 200 Macanese Patacas (approximately NT$780), and you can use it continuously for three days, allowing you to easily stroll through Macau’s Historic Centre and surrounding attractions. The rental service is available daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the full deposit will be refunded upon returning the device. Additionally, dedicated audio guide services are available at the Grand Prix Museum and the Wine Museum, where visitors can borrow and return the devices on-site.

The free audio guide service provided by the Macau Government Tourism Office includes six languages: Chinese, Cantonese, Portuguese, English, Japanese, and Korean, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of Macau’s historical background while exploring its ancient sites. The content and routes of the audio guide cover: Introduction to Macau, Senado Square, Leal Senado Building, Macau Post Office Building, Holy House of Mercy Building, Three Lanes and Seven Streets Meeting Hall, St. Dominic’s Church, Cathedral, Lou Kau Mansion, Old City Walls Ruins, A-Ma Temple, Fortaleza do Monte, Ruins of St. Paul’s, Old Protestant Cemetery, Headquarters of the Oriental Foundation, and St. Anthony’s Church.

Built in 1889, the Lou Kau Mansion follows the architectural style of traditional mansions in Guangzhou’s Xiguan district and is one of the more well-preserved traditional Chinese residences in Macau. (Image provided by Mook Editorial Department)

In addition, starting August 4th, art and cultural performances such as Miao ethnic handicrafts, the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre’s “Nine Songs,” and a sketch exhibition by British painter George Chinnery will be held successively at the Lou Kau Mansion, Macau Cultural Centre, and Macau Museum of Art. The Miao ethnic handicraft exhibit will showcase traditional crafts from China’s Guizhou ethnic minorities, including Anshun wood carvings—recognized as National Intangible Cultural Heritage—and ethnically diverse dolls with varied designs. “Nine Songs” is a classic masterpiece by Lin Hwai-min that blends mythology, poetry, and dance, representing an ancient ritual and modern dance fusion. George Chinnery, regarded as the most influential Western painter in 19th-century Asia, had his sketches exhibited, featuring portraits, scenes of daily life, and church architecture created during his time in Macau.
