According to a survey conducted by a global online hotel booking website among 27,000 travelers worldwide, Italy and France, both renowned food nations, took the top two spots in the ranking of the best food countries as voted by global travelers. Meanwhile, Japan’s refined culinary culture is gradually leading the trend, balancing delicious ingredients with a pleasant dining atmosphere, earning it the third spot. Taiwan also made it into the top ten, tying with India for ninth place.

Taiwan is renowned for its rich and diverse street food culture, being the top choice for Taiwanese as their favorite snack paradise (28%) and ranking ninth among the world's culinary destinations in the eyes of global travelers (5%). Bubble tea (58%), stinky tofu (43%), and salt and pepper chicken (39%) were voted the top three must-try local snacks for international visitors, while renowned Taiwanese chef Ah-Chi was overwhelmingly chosen as the most suitable celebrity to represent Taiwanese street food (74%). Among domestic cities, the capital Taipei was the most recommended destination for international travelers (31%), thanks to its diverse food culture and vibrant nightlife, offering visitors a chance to fully experience Taipei’s unique urban charm. Notably, in this global ranking of food nations, Mainland China ranked fourth, ahead of popular tourist destinations such as Spain, the United States, Mexico, and Thailand, indicating that Chinese cuisine is gradually gaining popularity worldwide.
Additionally, the survey results show that the countries Taiwanese people visit most frequently are Japan (46%), China (41%), and Hong Kong (35%). Known for its friendly travel environment and attentive service, Japan was also selected by Taiwanese travelers as the country where they feel most at home (32%) and the destination with the best local cuisine (54%).
