Macao Giant Panda Pavilion

The Macao Giant Panda Pavilion is located within the Seac Pai Van Park in Coloane, Macao. The building covers an area of approximately 3,000 square meters. The entire structure is designed to incorporate the existing terrain and the characteristics of the architecture, built along the hillside and laid out in a fan-shaped distribution.

The exterior design of the Giant Panda Pavilion mainly imitates nature, with walls around the activity areas wrapped in stone-like materials to create a natural mountain-and-water environment for the giant pandas. The pavilion features two indoor activity areas, each about 330 square meters in size, and one outdoor activity area of approximately 600 square meters for the pandas’ use. To meet the living needs of the pandas, the pavilion also includes a logistics center with facilities such as animal shelters, bamboo washing zones, bamboo storage warehouses, feed preparation rooms, feed storage warehouses, monitoring areas, and a veterinary clinic.

The semi-transparent membrane covering the indoor activity area allows ample natural light to enter, reducing the need for artificial lighting. The overall shape of the membrane resembles a seashell, covering the entire panda pavilion. The activity area is designed with the giant pandas’ natural habitat in mind, emphasizing enhanced greenery elements while incorporating play facilities such as pools and climbing logs. Additionally, considering the pandas' preference for cooler environments and objects, the indoor activity area is specially equipped with a set of automatically cooled artificial imitation stones to help the pandas cool down during hot weather.

The visitor viewing area in the indoor activity space features two observation corridors at different heights, which can accommodate two groups of visitors simultaneously, increasing overall reception capacity. The outdoor activity area adopts an open design and retains as many original trees as possible, allowing the pandas to roam freely outdoors in suitable weather conditions. Visitors can directly observe the pandas’ activities through large reinforced glass observation windows.
