Sun Yat-sen Municipal Memorial Park

Sun Yat-sen Municipal Memorial Park serves as a patriotic education base.

Sun Yat-sen Municipal Memorial Park is located in the northwest corner of Macau. It is the largest park built by the Macau Municipal Council in recent years and also the biggest park on the Macau Peninsula.

The site of the park was originally a landfill, covering an area of approximately 70,000 square metres, with a length of 390 metres and a width of 130 metres, forming a long, narrow strip extending northwest.

The park’s landscape is divided into two parts: the northeast section features a traditional Chinese design, including an artificial lake, winding bridges, pavilions, and a small building; the southwest section has a Western-style design, with sports facilities and a greenhouse. The pavilion in the northeast section is built atop a small man-made hill, offering views of China’s Gongbei area. The small building, with its red walls and green tiles, presents an elegant and tranquil atmosphere; the winding bridges are charming and full of character.

In the middle of the park, there is a children’s play area constructed from iron frames, consisting of three tower-like iron structures that form an interesting shape.

Surrounding the central part of the park is a 500-metre-long corridor, which is the longest corridor among all parks in Macau, connecting most of the park’s landscapes.

The central and southwestern sections of the park also include facilities such as an open-air theatre, a roller-skating rink, and a greenhouse. The theatre can accommodate hundreds of spectators for performances.

Recently, a sculpture titled “The Eternal Handshake” was erected in the park, serving as one of the monuments commemorating the friendship between China and Portugal.
