Tai O Yang Hou Ancient Temple in Hong Kong
The Tai O Yang Hou Ancient Temple, also known as the Tai O Hou Wang Temple, is a temple dedicated to the Prince in Hong Kong. It is located beside Po Chue Tam in Tai O on Lantau Island and is currently listed as a Grade I historic building in Hong Kong. The roof ridge features Shiwan figurines, twin dragons holding a fire pearl, and carved panel decorations. Pure tin plaques and couplets are considered the temple’s treasured relics. The temple enshrines not only the main deity Yang Hou but also Guan Di, Bei Di, and Hung Shing — four major deities. The Tai O Yang Hou Ancient Temple is directly managed by the Chinese Temples Committee.
The Tai O Yang Hou Ancient Temple was built in the 38th year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1699) and is dedicated to Yang Liangjie, a famous official of the Southern Song Dynasty. The temple’s couplet reads: “Guarded by Magpie Ridge as a screen, blessed with spiritual energy; overlooking Phoenix Mountain as a barrier, ensuring peace and prosperity for the people.”

Getting There: Take New Lantau Bus routes 11, 1, or 21 and get off at Tai O Bus Stop, then walk to the temple.
