Situated on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, Ngong Ping Plaza spans around 1.5 hectares and is designed with a prominent Buddhist aesthetic that complements the religious ambiance of the area. The plaza links key sites including the Po Lin Monastery, the Big Buddha, Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car, Ngong Ping Village, and the Wisdom Path, creating smooth connections between attractions so that travelers can enjoy a seamless visit to this renowned destination that combines both spiritual and natural beauty.

Ngong Ping Plaza consists of four main attractions: the New Archway, the Bodhi Path, the Earth Altar, and the Traditional Chinese Garden. The New Archway, situated at the entrance of the plaza, is built in the architectural style of the Qing Dynasty’s northern region, matching the style of the Po Lin Monastery. The Bodhi Path is a central walkway leading from the New Archway to the Earth Altar, lined with the “Twelve Heavenly Generals of the Medicine Buddha” and forty lotus lanterns. The Twelve Heavenly Generals are deities in Buddhism, each guarding one of the twelve two-hour periods of the day. They also represent the twelve zodiac animals, with each general wearing a crown engraved with the symbol of one zodiac sign. The Earth Altar is located in front of the Po Lin Monastery and the Big Buddha, where religious ceremonies are occasionally held. The Traditional Chinese Garden complements the style of the Po Lin Monastery, and its serene landscape enhances the solemn presence of the majestic Big Buddha.
