Hong Kong Ngong Ping 360 is a cable car route and the third cable car system in Hong Kong after the now-demolished Mount Parker Cable Car and the Ocean Park cable car system. Managed by the MTR Corporation, it connects Tung Chung on Lantau Island with Ngong Ping. Upon its completion, Ngong Ping 360 became the world’s largest cable car system in scale. Initially, the Hong Kong MTR referred to the cable car system as the Tung Chung Tourist Cable Car, but the official name has since been established as Ngong Ping 360, which is now displayed on ticketing machines and route maps. The “360” in the name refers to the 360-degree panoramic views of Lantau Island that passengers can enjoy from the cabins. Other colloquial names include the Tung Chung Cable Car and the Ngong Ping Cable Car.

Unlike conventional cable cars, Ngong Ping 360 features a three-segment design with two turns. The cable car route begins at the station in Tung Chung, first crossing over Tung Chung Bay to reach the turning station at Chek Lap Kok, then turning 60 degrees to ascend the slopes of Nei Lak Shan within the Lantau North Country Park, making another turn at the turning station halfway up Nei Lak Shan, before finally arriving at the station in Ngong Ping.

The Ngong Ping Cable Car is a cable car system connecting Tung Chung with the Big Buddha. The “360” signifies that passengers can enjoy a 360-degree view during the ride. The entire cable car route spans 5.7 kilometers and the journey takes approximately 20 minutes.

The Ngong Ping Cable Car is the fastest and highest-capacity transport option between Tung Chung and Ngong Ping. In addition to the two main stations in Ngong Ping and Tung Chung, there are also two turning stations located on Airport Island and Nei Lak Shan on Lantau Island. There are a total of eight cable towers, built in Tung Chung, on Airport Island, on outlying islands, and within the Lantau North Country Park. Each Ngong Ping 360 cable car can accommodate 17 passengers. During the ride, passengers can take in breathtaking views of Hong Kong International Airport, the South China Sea, the Big Buddha, and the natural beauty of the Lantau North Country Park.
