Hong Kong Airlines Discovery Centre

The Aviation Discovery Centre (English: Aviation Discovery Centre) is located on the 6th floor of SkyPlaza in Terminal 2 of Hong Kong International Airport. It is the world’s first aviation-themed multimedia centre situated within an airport terminal, officially opened on June 1, 2007, and operated by Broadway Circuit. The centre features multiple exhibition zones with over 20 multimedia interactive facilities that introduce the development of global civil aviation, Kai Tak Airport, and Hong Kong International Airport. Most exhibits are free to view and allow visitors to interact with them directly. Following the closure of the 4D Hyper-Reality Theatre, the Aviation Discovery Centre was temporarily closed from January 31, 2012, for renovation. The renovation has now been completed, and the airport observation deck and flight simulator cockpit have been reopened.

Explore Flight

The entrance to the exhibition hall is called the “Discovery Runway.” As visitors walk along the entrance designed like an airport runway, they can enjoy views of the departure hall in Terminal 2. The exhibition area features several interactive exhibits that explain the principles of flight and aircraft structure, allowing visitors to operate features such as wing controls and simulate climbing. In the “Birds of Steel” exhibition zone, 13 large-scale aircraft models from different eras are displayed, and visitors can learn about related technical information through touch-screen facilities. In the “Wings Across the World” section, visitors can experience cabin layouts from different eras and classes, with cabin windows simulating the views of landing in various locations around the world.

Additionally, the exhibition area includes a highly realistic flight simulator cockpit where visitors can experience take-offs and landings at Kai Tak Airport through simulated scenarios.

Airport Action Journey

This exhibition area focuses on the development history of Kai Tak Airport and Hong Kong International Airport, and also features a 220° ultra-wide-angle projection screen that plays footage of operations and the handover between the old and new airports. There is also an interactive quiz game section called “Airport Decoder.”

Airport Observation Deck

The Airport Observation Deck (English: SkyDeck), opened on July 12, 2007, is connected to the exhibition hall via an elevator. The observation deck is located on the rooftop of the adjacent airport administration building, offering 360° views of airport facilities and aircraft take-offs and landings.

Essence Gallery

This serves as the service counter for the exhibition hall and also sells souvenirs with aviation and movie themes.
