The Pang Clan Ancestral Hall in Fanling

The Pang Clan Ancestral Hall is located in Pei Bin Village, Fanling. It was built in the early Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1573). During the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, scholar Pang Bu Jin noticed that the ancestral hall had fallen into disrepair. He then raised funds with fellow clan members in the village and, in the 26th year of Daoguang (1846), commissioned a feng shui master to choose an auspicious date to relocate the ancestral hall to its current site in Pei Bin Village. The ancestral hall was later rebuilt in the 10th year of Guangxu (1884) and underwent renovation again in 1979.

The Pang clan of Fanling established their village during the Song Dynasty, boasting a history of over 700 years. It later expanded into Fanling Wai, best known for its feng shui fishpond and antique cannons within the walled village. Nearby, there are also the Sidak Study Hall and the Pang Clan Ancestral Hall. The architecture still retains the style of the Qing Dynasty and houses an extremely rich collection of cultural relics.

On the second day of the second lunar month each year, members of the Pang clan hold a grand spring worship ceremony in the ancestral hall to pay homage to their ancestors throughout the generations. Since 1979, part of the ancestral hall has been converted into the “Fanling Kindergarten,” providing preschool education for young children in the village. In recent years, the “Fanling Kindergarten” has been closed.
