Hong Kong Pong Ying Sin Koon

Pong Ying Sin Koon is one of Hong Kong’s renowned Taoist temples, belonging to the Quanzhen Longmen sect of Taoism. It is located at 66 Pak Wo Road, Fanling, New Territories, adjacent to Fanling Station on the East Rail Line of the MTR. Legend has it that “Penglai” and “Yingzhou” are immortal mountains in the Bohai Sea, and the characters “Pong” (蓬) and “Ying” (瀛) in the temple’s name are derived from these two mythical mountains.

The architecture within Pong Ying Sin Koon is rich with traditional Chinese elements. Beneath vast orange-tiled double-layered roofs are bold red beams and stone pillars, resembling a classical Chinese landscape painting straight out of a postcard. The “Three Saints Hall,” which enshrines the deified master Lü Dongbin, features a ceiling painted blue to depict the heavens, with cloud seas and ornamental pillars on both sides. Cranes glide through the clouds, and as you look up inside the hall, it feels as though you’ve entered a celestial realm. Another must-see attraction is the “Tao Te Ching Wall,” where the front of the stone wall is inscribed with all 81 chapters of the Tao Te Ching, the side displays the “Fourteen Character Health Preservation Formula” by the Supreme Old Lord (Tai Shang Lao Jun), and the back features Xu Beihong’s “Eighty-Seven Immortals.” Together, they present a blend of faith, wellness, and Taoist philosophy. Additionally, the temple’s gardens offer panoramic views of Fanling and are adorned with flowers, small bridges, and flowing water, enhancing the beauty of the entire landscape.

Currently, the temple is mainly used for promulgating Taoist teachings and quiet meditation, with only certain areas open to visitors for tours and vegetarian meals.
