The former residence of Zhao Chengshou faces south and features a two-courtyard layout. It was built in 1928. The building stretches 21.66 meters from east to west and 41.72 meters from north to south, covering an area of 903 square meters. There are seven rooms each in the southern wing, the corridor hall, and the main house, as well as five rooms on both the eastern and western sides, all of which are wooden structures with flush gable roofs. The courtyard gate and interior decorations feature Western-style elements, and facilities such as the heating system have largely retained their original appearance.

Zhao Chengshou (1891–1966), courtesy name Yinpu, was from Huaiyin Village, Wutai County. He graduated from the Baoding Military Academy in 1919, participated in the Northern Expedition in 1927, served as the commander of the Second Division under Yan Xishan’s forces, and in 1928 became the cavalry commander of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army, stationed in Datong. In June 1948, he was captured and surrendered during the Central Shanxi Campaign. In 1952, he served as an advisor to the Ministry of Water Resources of the People's Republic of China.

The former residence of Zhao Chengshou is a building from the Republican Period. It underwent renovation in 2007 and is currently occupied by the Yungang Painting Academy. The residence remains largely intact today, preserving the original architectural layout, with no major changes to its key structural features, thereby maintaining good historical authenticity.

The former residence of Zhao Chengshou authentically reflects the historical environment of the time, and its unique architectural style incorporates European-style decorative elements, providing tangible evidence of the social context and historical transformations of that era.
