China Sculpture Museum

The China Sculpture Museum is located within the barbican of Datong’s northern city wall, and is considered China’s first professional theme-based museum. With a total floor area of 32,000 square meters, an exhibition space of 26,000 square meters, and an exhibition line stretching 2,100 meters, the museum showcased 519 pieces in its inaugural exhibition, including works by renowned sculptors as well as outstanding pieces from the annual “Zeng Zhushao Sculpture Art Scholarship Graduates’ Exhibition.”

The China Sculpture Museum is China’s only thematic sculpture museum, dedicated to the public welfare mission of collecting, exhibiting, and researching sculpture artworks from ancient to modern times, both domestic and international, as well as promoting art education, artistic exchange, and social services. The museum aims to serve as a hub for exhibitions, collections, research, and public art education, adopting an approach that combines international and regional elements, professional and amateur interests, as well as academic and grassroots perspectives. By hosting various sculpture art exhibitions and creative activities, it seeks to attract high-caliber domestic and international artists and academic teams to gather in Datong, encourage more influential art exchange events to be held in the city, and promote and drive the development of Datong’s cultural and creative industries.

Honors and Awards

In December 2020, it was included in the fourth batch of National Second-Class Museums.
