Xinjiang Minjie Folk Museum is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Xinjiang Minjie Folk Museum is a national 4A-level scenic spot and one of the New Ten Scenic Spots of Urumqi. It is located on Longquan Street in Tianshan District, Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Accessible via the Hetan Expressway or major roads such as Jiefang South Road and Xinhua South Road in the urban area, it is just 500 meters from the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar and Erdaoqiao Market. It is a comprehensive cultural landscape integrating tourism, sightseeing, catering, entertainment, and shopping, and also serves as a window for the world to understand and promote Xinjiang.

Xinjiang Minjie Folk Museum (abbreviated as Xinjiang Minjie) covers a land area of 24,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 48,000 square meters. The entire structure is a full-frame building, consisting of one underground level and five above-ground floors, connected by five buildings and four three-dimensional streets. Its architecture is primarily inspired by Islamic culture, ingeniously blending elements of Central Plains culture, European and American culture, and modern culture, presenting a distinctive ethnic style. Xinjiang, vast in territory and located in the heart of the Eurasian continent, accounts for one-sixth of China's total land area. On this vast and magical land, the industrious and intelligent people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang have created a splendid historical civilization. Xinjiang Minjie serves as a window for the world to understand, know, and promote Xinjiang.

Xinjiang Minjie not only boasts the largest stone and jade trading market in the whole region and a well-equipped antique collection market, but also features a 3,000-square-meter ethnic dining banquet hall. Major attractions include the Mysterious Xinjiang Miniature Landscape, Xinjiang Folk Museum, Ethnic Tea Art Bar, Western Regions Thirty-Six Kingdoms Style Garden, Ethnic Handicraft Bazaar, Fantawild Science Park, and other cultural landscapes that concentrate and condense Xinjiang’s geographical features, folk culture, and historical overview. It allows visitors to “experience all of Xinjiang along one street and travel through ancient and modern times in a single day.”

Components

The four main components of Xinjiang Minjie—Ethnic Dining Street, Ethnic Culture Street, Eurasian Commodity Street, and Jewelry & Boutique Street—are four pedestrian streets that showcase the four major themes of Xinjiang culture:

Culinary Culture — the delicious flavors of various ethnic groups, Artistic Culture — vibrant song and dance performances, Commodity Culture — Eurasian goods you can’t put down, and Product Culture — a dazzling array of Xinjiang’s specialty products.

Aiming to become the premier destination for experiencing Xinjiang’s humanistic culture, Xinjiang Minjie continuously creates cultural tourism brands. Currently, it has established a series of attractions that fully reflect and showcase the charm of Xinjiang, including the Xinjiang University Minjie Folk Museum, the “Mysterious Xinjiang” Miniature Landscape, the Ethnic Tea Art Bar, and the Xinjiang Style Gallery.

Exhibition Hall Introduction

Mysterious Xinjiang Miniature Landscape: The exhibition hall covers a total area of 2,000 square meters. In accordance with the administrative order and natural distribution of Xinjiang’s 15 prefectures, cities, and regions, it presents a 1:50,000 scale miniature of the terrain, scenic spots, historical sites, and urban construction across the region, serving as the first stop for those traveling to Xinjiang.

Xinjiang Folk Museum: The museum displays over 4,000 cultural relics from 13 major ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, including traditional costumes of various ethnic groups, ancient Uyghur musical instruments such as the Rawap and the Ajek. It centrally showcases the historical culture and life customs of the ethnic minorities in Xinjiang.

Western Regions Thirty-Six Kingdoms Style Garden: Based on the history of the ancient Thirty-Six Kingdoms of the Western Regions, this garden uses modern design concepts and symbolic artistic techniques to vividly present the magic, mystery, and sacredness of the Silk Road in the Western Regions during the Han and Tang dynasties, as well as the cultural miracle formed by the convergence and accumulation of diverse cultures.

Ethnic Handicraft Bazaar: This is a dynamic museum of intangible cultural heritage in Xinjiang. With realistic farmstead settings, folk artisans demonstrate the traditional crafts of making Atlas silk, Palas, and Hotan carpets on-site. Visitors can both participate in the crafting process to experience the diligence and wisdom of the people of various ethnic groups in Xinjiang, and immerse themselves in the simple charm of the ancient Silk Road through a blend of motion and stillness.

Fantawild Science Park: Located on the negative first floor of Xinjiang Minjie, it covers an operating area of 8,000 square meters. Equipped with a full set of American Fantawild devices, it offers more than 50 high-tech, simulation-based interactive science education experiences.
