Memorial Hall of the Eighth Route Army Xinjiang Office

The Memorial Hall of the Eighth Route Army Xinjiang Office is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The Memorial Hall of the Eighth Route Army Xinjiang Office is located on Shengli Road in Urumqi. It officially opened to the public on October 1, 1962, covering an area of 1,100 square meters, with the building area of the historical site being 503.6 square meters. The annual reception capacity is 50,000 visitors. In 1974, Comrade Dong Biwu personally inscribed the name of the memorial hall.

During the War of Resistance against Japan, the comrades of our Party working in Xinjiang resolutely implemented the Party’s guidelines and policies, actively carried out the anti-Japanese salvation movement, supported the national war effort, and made significant contributions in maintaining the smooth flow of international transport routes, training military technical personnel, and developing Xinjiang’s political, economic, cultural, and educational undertakings. The memorial hall recreates this history with a large number of precious historical materials, while also commemorating the glorious achievements of eleven revolutionary martyrs including Deng Fa, Chen Tanqiu, and Mao Zemin.

The memorial hall is a two-story building with a Sino-Soviet architectural style and a structure of wood and earth. It currently houses 4,000 cultural relics, among which 16 are listed as national first-class cultural relics. There are four permanent exhibitions, displaying 210 panels featuring photos, archives, documents, writings of martyrs, weapons, manuscripts, books, magazines, paintings, poems, and songs. Over the past 40 years, through the unremitting efforts of several generations, the Eighth Route Army Memorial Hall has become a revolutionary history museum with rich collections and high national recognition.

In November 1994, the memorial hall was designated as a Patriotic Education Base by the Urumqi Municipal Committee and Municipal Government; in June 1998, it was named a Civilized Unit of the Autonomous Region; in 2000, it was designated as a Regional Juvenile Patriotic Education Base by the Publicity Department of the Autonomous Region Party Committee; in 2005, it was named a Red Tourism Base by the Autonomous Region Tourism Bureau.

In May 2013, the Memorial Hall of the Eighth Route Army Xinjiang Office was listed as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
