Urumqi Water Park

Urumqi Water Park is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The water park is situated at the southern end of the city, within the Yan’erwo Natural Scenic Area. It spans one square kilometer with 80% green coverage and was built in 1987. It serves as the largest recreational complex in the five northwestern provinces and the only one in Xinjiang that integrates landscape art with amusement, combining tourism, vacation, leisure, entertainment, and sightseeing.

The water park boasts unique landforms and pleasant scenery. The park features well-placed pavilions, small bridges over flowing streams, vast green lawns like carpets, and blooming flowers. Trees line the pathways, offering shade and fragrant blossoms. With 180,000 square meters of natural water bodies dotted with wild reeds, it forms a natural ecological wetland. The shimmering waters are enlivened by speedboats and pleasure boats gliding across the deep blue lake. A kilometer-long imitation of the ancient Great Wall winds through the park, stretching from deep within the amusement area to the water’s edge—locally known as the “Old Dragon Head” of the frontier. Ethnic architecture is another highlight of the park. A 300-meter-long scenic corridor stands proudly in the front area, grand and imposing. Lakeside pavilions reflecting regional culture are both beautiful and magnificent. Lush green lawns gracefully connect the lake, hills, pavilions, and corridors, symbolizing the unity and shared determination of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang to build a beautiful homeland together.
