Nanda Mosque

Nanda Mosque is a cultural heritage site protected by Urumqi.

Nanda Mosque is a mosque that was originally located at Nantaizi in the southern mountains of Urumqi. It was relocated and rebuilt here in 1919. The main prayer hall of Nanda Mosque has a protruding rectangular floor plan. The front part of the roof features a double-eaved hip-and-gable style covered with glazed tiles. The ridges are adorned with ceramic decorations such as dragons playing with a pearl, while the lower eaves are painted with five layers of colorful patterns including scrollwork and floral motifs. The central ridge beam is carved with 22 flying dragons. The rear part of the hall is built with brick walls, while the front part is fitted with wooden lattice doors. The corridors on both sides feature carved screens depicting four types of plants: orchid, plum blossom, bamboo, and lotus. The prayer hall is divided into inner and outer sections, and can accommodate up to a thousand worshippers.
