The Yadan area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Hami Yadan Scenic Area is located in the Zhibian Farm of Wubao Township, Hami City, Xinjiang. The scenic zone stretches 80 kilometers in length and 40 kilometers in width, covering an area of approximately 3,200 square kilometers. It is divided into four areas—east, south, west, and north—and features six sand flats, sixteen scenic spots, and one ancient city. The Hami Yadan landform natural scenic tourism area is the foremost among China's four major "devil cities." It surpasses the Dunhuang Devil City in Gansu, the Urho Devil City in Karamay, Xinjiang, and the Kalameili Magic Valley in Qitai in terms of scale, diversity of landforms, and the uniqueness of its formations. Additionally, there are two features unique to this site: first, within the Hami Yadan natural scenic tourism area lies an ancient man-made fortress city situated along the northern route of the Silk Road. To the north of the fortress lies an ancient tomb cluster, where natural and cultural landscapes blend seamlessly, complementing each other. Second, the scenic area contains a fossil beach with numerous ancient biological fossils that transport visitors to a mystical prehistoric era, allowing them to sense the dramatic changes of geological time and experience the awe-inspiring and majestic wonders shaped by nature. In the Hami Devil City, you can see various formations resembling castles, temples, stupas, stone tablets, human figures, and animals, as well as colorful agates, petrified wood, and vivid plant fossils scattered among the rocks. Occasionally, you may even find small round stones resembling dinosaur eggs, marine fish fossils, and bird fossils. The area also preserves ancient architectural remains such as the fortress city and old residential ruins—the Eskexiaer Fortress City. On a wind-eroded platform about 6 meters above the ground stands a rectangular rammed-earth structure approximately 5 meters high, with a front section featuring doors and windows, resembling a dwelling. This site is believed to have been a place of human activity—an ancient Silk Road station or a southwestern outpost of the Hami Kingdom.

Wubao Town: I. Overview

Wubao Township is located 75 kilometers southwest of Hami. It borders Nanhu Township to the east, Qijiaojing Town to the west, Bayin'guoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture to the south, and Erbao Town, Liushuquan Farm, and Sandaoling to the north. The administrative area spans 17,159 square kilometers, making it the second largest in the city after Qincheng Township, accounting for 20.2% of the city’s total area, and includes 44,000 hectares of grassland. The region enjoys abundant heat, high temperatures, dry climate, and large diurnal temperature variations.
