Tianshan Scenic Area

The Tianshan Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.

The Tianshan Scenic Area is divided into five scenic spots: Baishitou, Mingsha Mountain, Songshutang, Tianshan Temple, and Hanqigou. “Experience all four seasons in one day, and a different sky every ten miles.” Along the over 70-kilometer journey from the city to the Tianshan Scenic Area via the Haba Highway, you can witness five major natural landscapes: oases, deserts and Gobi, grasslands, forests, and snow-capped peaks. Along the route, you’ll also encounter mirages, ancient beacon towers and post stations, Han Dynasty steles and Tang Dynasty temples, pastureland yurts, and herds of deer — truly capturing the essence of the Silk Road and the unique features of the Western Regions.

The Hami Tianshan Scenic Area was developed and constructed starting in 1995, designated as an autonomous region-level scenic area by the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 1997, and promoted to a national AAA-level scenic spot in 2001.

Guide: The Tianshan Scenic Area is located on the northern slope of the Eastern Tianshan Mountains, stretching from Hanqigou in the east to Songshutang in the west, and from Tianshan Temple in the south to Mingsha Mountain in the north, covering a total area of 120 square kilometers. It is approximately 70 kilometers from Hami City and accessible via a provincial road (the Northern New Silk Road), with convenient transportation and communication.
