The Ancient City of Lapuqiao

The Ancient City of Lapuqiao is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Ancient City of Lapuqiao is located in Sibu Village, Wubao Township, Hami City, approximately 65 kilometers east of Hami. It is a sizable ancient site, consisting of two parts — a northern city and a southern city — arranged in a “呂”-shaped layout. Due to the Baiyang River flowing between the two sections, the ancient city has suffered damage. Much of the site has been converted into residential areas for villagers or orchards, and most of the original structures have been destroyed. The pottery shards discovered both inside and outside the ancient city are mainly sandy red and gray pottery. Most were wheel-made, fired at high temperatures, and decorated with patterns such as scalloped incised lines and applied ridges. Common vessel shapes include jars and urns. In terms of form and style, these artifacts share many similarities with those unearthed at the Jimsar County’s Beiting Ancient City.
