To the east of Burqin County stands a towering monument — the Bai Shanbu Monument, which was built specifically to commemorate Bai Shanbu-Dunanbai, a renowned Kazakh folk composer and the founder of Dombra music. The monument is 8 meters high and covers an area of 150 square meters. Bai Shanbu-Dunanbai was born in 1803 and died in 1872. During his lifetime, he composed over 400 pieces of folk music primarily featuring the Dombra. Among his famous works, such as "The Lone Hero" and "The Agile Chestnut Horse," are still widely performed and cherished within Kazakh communities. Bai Shanbu Monument

The Dombra is a two-stringed plucked instrument that is easy to learn and carry, making it a traditional musical instrument among the Kazakh people — almost every household owns one. The Kazakhs are a music-loving, singing, and dancing ethnic group. In their culture, musicians and poets are held in the highest esteem. Bai Shanbu-Dunanbai used to travel across the grasslands year-round with his Dombra, spreading the music he created and bringing joy to countless families. At the same time, he often worked tirelessly to mediate tribal disputes and resolve conflicts among communities, earning him the affectionate title of "Messenger of Peace" among the Kazakhs.
