Turkey coup: 101 Taiwanese tourists stranded at Istanbul airport

A coup has been reported in Turkey, with all inbound and outbound flights suspended at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport. The Tourism Bureau stated that there are currently five Taiwanese tour groups totaling 101 people stranded at Istanbul Airport, including one group from Lion Travel, two from Kuo Kuang Travel, and two from HuaYou Travel. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with EVA Air to provide temporary accommodation while waiting for the airport to reopen.

According to preliminary statistics from the Tourism Bureau, there are currently 30 tour groups with 675 people still traveling in Turkey. After contacting the tour leaders, all members are safe and are staying in hotels to rest while discussing their next steps. The Tourism Bureau has provided emergency contact numbers for Turkish overseas missions to travel agencies to pass on to tour leaders, and urged them to pay attention to the safety of travelers in Turkey. They are also advised to closely monitor the local situation and assist in helping travelers return home as soon as possible. Tour leaders have been asked to maintain constant communication with the Taiwanese Representative Office in Turkey to receive necessary assistance when needed.
