Monument to Bai Shanbu

The Monument to Bai Shanbu is a cultural tourism attraction.

Guide   To the east of Burqin County stands a towering monument, 8 meters high and covering an area of 150 square meters. This is the Monument to Bai Shanbu, built specifically to commemorate Bai Shanbu Dunanbai, a renowned Kazakh folk composer and the founder of the dombra musical tradition. Bai Shanbu Dunanbai was born in 1803 and died in 1872. Throughout his life, he composed over 400 folk music pieces performed on the dombra, including famous tunes such as “The Lone Hero” and “The Agile Bay Horse,” which are still widely sung among the Kazakh people today. The Kazakh people are known for their love of music and dance, and musicians and poets are highly respected. The dombra is a two-stringed plucked instrument that is easy to learn and carry, making it a traditional instrument among the Kazakhs—almost every household owns one. In his time, Bai Shanbu Dunanbai would travel across the grasslands with his dombra, spreading the music he composed. He also frequently worked to mediate tribal disputes and resolve conflicts within communities. Transportation   Located to the east of Burqin County, not far from the highway leading from Burqin to Kanas, the monument can be seen from the road.
