Kuixugen Rock Carvings

The Kuixugen Rock Carvings are located within Chonghuer Township, Burqin County, and are easily accessible by off-road vehicles. Geographic coordinates: 48°09′″ N, 87°11′13″ E, at an elevation of 770 meters.

The rock carvings are located at the entrance of the Kuixugen Valley, about 5 kilometers east of the Chonghuer Township government office. It is an important herding route used by local herders during their seasonal migrations, with large numbers of livestock passing through in both spring and autumn. The carvings are divided into two sections. The first section is located among the scattered rocks at the valley entrance. Originally quite extensive, it has been reduced to only partial remains due to locals removing stones. The surviving artwork covers an area of 54×50 centimeters and features three animal figures—judging from the imagery, there appears to be a dog at the top, a cat at the bottom, and an unclear figure in the middle. The second section of the carvings spans a larger area, located about 1 kilometer away from the first section. The artwork here measures approximately 10×30 centimeters and features a complex array of intricate patterns, with many instances of new carvings overlapping older ones. The content is largely related to the lives of nomadic peoples, including depictions of goats, foxes, dogs, horses, and scenes of people riding horses.

The Kuixugen Rock Carvings are one of the more extensive rock art sites in Burqin County. Their concentrated distribution and proximity to the road between Burqin and Kanas Lake give them high potential for tourism development.
