Burqin County Museum

The Burqin County Museum is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Burqin County Museum covers an area of over 1,200 square meters and houses a collection of more than 400 cultural relics, including 18 national-level artifacts such as the Huandeke fur coat, known as the museum’s “treasure.” The exhibition halls are divided into sections featuring ancient relics, rock paintings, stone figures, Kazakh culture, Tuva culture, ecological specimens, and displays of Burqin’s development history. The Burqin County Museum is the first high-quality county-level museum in Xinjiang and even across China. As a local “patriotic education base,” it offers free admission to teenagers, soldiers, community residents, and seniors. Since its opening, it has welcomed over 40,000 visitors from various regions.

Basic Exhibitions Edit

“Grassland Nomads” mainly displays a variety of stone tools, pottery, bronze ware, grassland stone figures, deer stones, and rock paintings from different periods, showcasing a collection of precious relics that reflect the historical development of Burqin.

“Horseback People of the Grasslands” systematically presents the traditional production, lifestyle, artistic culture, and religious beliefs of the Kazakhs—the predominant ethnic group in the county—through folk relics.

“The Cloud Tribe – The Tuva People” The Tuva people are an ancient branch of the Mongolian ethnic group, with only a small population of fewer than 2,000 remaining in the Hemu and Kanas areas of Burqin County in China. They still maintain a complete traditional way of life based on nomadism and hunting. This exhibition displays folk relics such as production tools and daily items reflecting the Tuva people’s history and social development, offering an authentic glimpse into their traditional lifestyle and simple customs. Collection of Cultural Relics Edit

The Huandeke Fur Coat Qing Dynasty official attire. The coat’s owner, Huandeke, was the chieftain of the Kazakh Kele tribe and a brave warrior. The coat is made from seven high-quality deer hides using the traditional Kazakh hair-combing craft.

Seal of the Left Wing Zasak of the Uryanhay This seal was made in 1918 (the seventh year of the Republic of China) and is one of the official seals issued by the Beiyang Government to the Uryanhay Mongolian tribe. The silver-plated seal features bilingual inscriptions in Chinese and Mongolian, with the 12 Chinese seal characters reading “Seal of the Left Zasak of the Left Banner of Uryanhay.”

Grassland Stone Figures Primarily referring to tombstone figures, these are typical remnants of mountain grassland inhabitants. The underlying meaning of the stone figures reflects the concept of ancestor worship and also carries the significance of praying for ancestral protection. [2]

Featured Activities Edit

The Hundred-Day Cultural Activities program is held twice a year, using diverse performances to enhance public awareness of cultural relic protection while providing entertainment for people of all ethnicities. [2]
