Burqin Tuokumute National Wetland Park

Burqin Tuokumute National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Burqin Tuokumute National Wetland Park is situated in the northern part of Burqin County, adjacent to Provincial Highway 232, and lies 11 kilometers in a straight line from the county seat. The planned total area is 1,174.54 hectares, with a wetland area of 891.35 hectares. The planned boundaries extend east to Jidile Village in Yigezitobie Township, west to the connection with Tuohongtai Reservoir, south to the forage base in Hatai Village, Woyimuke Township, and north to Jianggezitale Village in Woyimuke Township.

The water system within the wetland park consists of water from the Burqin River, which flows into the park through the main canal of the Tuohongtai Hydropower Station and then moves westward into Tuohongtai Reservoir, eventually joining the Ertix River via the Tuohongtai Hydropower Station. The Ertix River is a transnational river and the only river in China that flows into the Arctic Ocean. The construction of the wetland park plays a significant role in protecting the water quality of the Burqin River, an important tributary of the Ertix River, and in maintaining the water ecological security of the upper Ertix River basin, an international waterway.

After the approval and construction of Tuokumute National Wetland Park, Burqin County will implement scientific and rational planning and design. Centered around projects including wetland conservation, wetland restoration, science education, scientific research and monitoring, and disaster prevention, the county aims to build a national wetland park with a distinctive overall image, complete infrastructure, unique wetland landscapes, rich biodiversity, integrated science education and eco-tourism features, and a strong local wetland cultural character.
