Fanwang Temple Tomb Cluster

The Fanwang Temple Tomb Cluster is a cultural heritage site protected by Shanxi Province.

Introduction:

The Fanwang Temple Tomb Cluster is situated within a 3-kilometer radius near Fanwang Temple Village in Fanwang Temple Township, approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Shuocheng District, Shuozhou City. It lies in the outskirts of Fangcheng, the ancient county seat of Loufan during the early Han Dynasty. The area is close to Yangfangkou and faces Ningwuguan Pass. Before the 1970s, from the summit of Zhaobi Mountain in the west to the eastern bank of the Hui River in the east, burial mounds from the Western Han to the Northern Dynasties periods were densely scattered. Later, due to farmland leveling by villagers, most of the original mounds were flattened and turned into cultivated land. Currently, 21 distinct burial mounds remain, distributed among the villages of Fanwang Temple, Shuiquanliang, Jiaopo, and Liyuantou. These mounds are all conical in shape, with remaining heights of 2–7 meters and base perimeters of 20–100 meters.

These tombs are closely related to the ancient city of Loufan. The Han people who once lived here must have left behind a wealth of invaluable historical materials, awaiting future excavation and research. It is a key provincial-level cultural heritage protection site.
