The Sanggan River Wetland Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

The Sanggan River Wetland Water Conservancy Scenic Area in Shuozhou City is located within Shuozhou, Shanxi Province. It is formed around the floodplain wetlands of the main course of the Sanggan River, the Dongyulin Medium Reservoir, the Naihe Dam, irrigation areas, and natural spring systems, featuring a variety of water conservancy scenic resources, covering a total area of over 18,000 mu.

The Sanggan River Wetland Ecological Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a public-benefit scenic area in Shuozhou. With the development of the scenic area, the overall environment in the surrounding areas has significantly improved, and the city’s image has been further enhanced. The scenic area has become a source of pride and an iconic landmark for Shuozhou, with its influence extending well beyond the province, serving as a “showcase” for the city’s urban development, investment attraction, and improvement of the investment environment.

With the continuous improvement of the environment, long-absent aquatic plants have begun to grow again, and flocks of waterfowl have come to inhabit the area. After several years of planning and construction, the scenic area now boasts “verdant gardens, gentle breezes, and shimmering blue waters,” integrating leisure, vacation, entertainment, recreation, culture, and sports activities. Notably, recent authoritative surveys have identified the potential for constructing natural hot spring wells with temperatures exceeding 45°C within the scenic area, rich in various mineral elements beneficial to human health, further adding to the area’s appeal and depth.

The scenic area boasts abundant landscape resources and well-preserved ecology, with over 1,000 acres of reeds, aquatic plants, and wetlands, as well as more than 100 large karst spring outlets, some of which spout water columns over 2 meters high. The site where Wei Chi Gong of the Tang Dynasty achieved military merit and the birthplace of Ding Ling’s novel *The Sun Shines Over the Sanggan River* are both located within the scenic area.
