Pamir Tourism Area

The Pamir Tourism Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Pamir is situated in the southwestern part of Xinjiang. In ancient times, it was called Congling and has long been known as the “Roof of the World.” According to its natural geographical features, it can be divided into eight parts, also referred to as the Eight “Pams.” The Qing Dynasty erected a victory stele in the Alchu’er Pam, and eight karan (frontier posts) were built across the various Pams. The Pamir has been the home and grazing land of China’s Tajik and Kirghiz peoples, and it remained part of China until the 1870s. The Pamir is divided into eight “Pams,” from north to south: the Heshikuozhuke Pamir, the Sarez Pamir, the Langkuli Pamir, the Alchu’er Pamir, the Great Pamir, the Little Pamir, the Taxkorganbash Pamir, and the Wakhan Pamir.
