Karamay Jiulong Pool

Introduction: Karamay Jiulong Pool is the source of the Karamay River, located within the Eastern Suburbs Waterfall Scenic Area—the starting point of the Karamay River Urban Scenic Belt. The scenic area mainly consists of an approximately 8-meter-high artificial waterfall, a large pool beneath the waterfall, and surrounding vast greenbelts and lawns. The waterfall’s water source comes from the rapid flow of the Fengke Canal, with water gushing from the mouth of a central giant dragon, forming a massive waterfall about 10 meters wide through the speed of the water spray and natural gravity. Eight dragon mouths on either side of the waterfall also simultaneously spout water jets, creating a grand water corridor. Below the waterfall lies a huge rectangular “回”-shaped pool, with clear blue waves rippling inside. On the east and west sides of the pool, small arch bridges connect to islands in the pool, serving as crossings over the vast water. The area around the large pool is paved with granite flats, and flower beds on both sides are in full bloom with roses and marigolds, while the slopes are covered with green lawns dotted with flowers.

To complement the vividly lifelike nine dragons, a set of classic-style buildings was ingeniously constructed on the dam that spans the canal, with a total floor area of about 600 square meters. These include two octagonal pavilions on either side, a central gate tower, and a corridor connecting the pavilions and the gate tower. There are also approximately 100 meters of corridors on both sides of the large pool. Within the scenic area, the red-and-green interlaced tiles on the pedestrian pathways are both attractive and neat. Several newly installed public telephone booths reflect the designers’ people-oriented approach. The tall, uniquely shaped street lamps lend the Jiulong Pool a distinctive charm under the night sky. The entire architectural complex features carved beams and painted rafters, vibrant colors, and rich ethnic characteristics. As a man-made tourist attraction, Jiulong Pool has attracted considerable attention since its completion, drawing many visitors daily for sightseeing and photography. It has become a proud riverside landmark for local residents.
