As the annual Qixi Festival, or Chinese Valentine’s Day, approaches, one of the most common dilemmas is figuring out what gift to give—how to make your partner happy and surprised. It’s always a head-scratcher, but if you really can’t think of anything, how about giving a 100-carat diamond?

▲The shop’s popular item “Forbidden Fruit” uses ingredients like raspberries, and its vibrant red color also fits the mood of Qixi.
But a single carat of diamond costs quite a bit, let alone 100 carats—how could anyone afford that? This question gets answered atCream & Sugar Dessert Shop in Taichung, where their specially made diamond chocolate truly weighs 100 carats. The outer layer of the dessert is made with 33% pure white chocolate, using hand-tempered methods to maintain the chocolate’s crispness. The inner part is divided into upper and lower layers: the upper layer is a blackcurrant white cheese mousse, combining berry-flavored blackcurrants with naturally tasting white cheese; the lower layer is a rum grape mousse, using raisins soaked in five-year-aged rum for ten days to create a rich grape flavor. Though the two layers have different tastes, they achieve a perfect harmony, not only looking like a diamond, but tasting like one too.

▲A highlight of Cream & Sugar is its many creative desserts, with imaginative ideas that are truly surprising.
The owner of Cream & Sugar is actually from Hong Kong. He came to Taiwan originally because he wanted to happily make desserts and let customers feel the warmth of his handmade treats. But due to the extremely high rent in Hong Kong, he ended up in Taiwan, opening a shop to craft creative handmade desserts.Theidea for this diamond dessert came from when he proposed to his girlfriend, so he also named the dessert “Marry me”, allowing people to feel pure happiness just from the name. The owner joked, “Can’t afford a one-carat diamond? Then make a hundred-carat one.” And that’s how thediamond dessertwas born—an idea truly worthy of admiration.

The owner said he’s a very imaginative person, and developing a new product can take one to two months. Although it takes time, he enjoys the process. In the future, he also plans to try molecular gastronomy, so the shop can offer more diverse types of food. For those still wondering what to give on Qixi, a 100-carat diamond dessert not only brings visual joy, but the subtle sweetness and cozy atmosphere after eating it can warm your relationship, making for a unique Qixi Festival. However, since this dessert is complex to make, it’s safer to reserve in advance, or you might find there’s no “diamond” left to buy when the time comes!
