The famous Antigua region, a top-tier specialty coffee-growing area in Guatemala, enjoys exceptionally favorable natural conditions for coffee cultivation. Many are curious as to why Guatemalan Antigua coffee constantly emphasizes its authenticity. The truth is, Antigua’s fame is so widespread that local producers formed the Genuine Antigua Producers Association (APCA) to safeguard the reputation of their beans. Only officially recognized high-quality farms are permitted to stamp their sacks with the APCA membership mark upon shipment.

The Santa Clara Estate is located in Guatemala’s southern Antigua region, with its coffee plantations concentrated in the Antigua Valley, surrounded by three volcanoes: Acatenango, Agua, and Fuego. The volcanic ash ejected from these volcanoes is rich in minerals, providing the soil with ample nutrients and excellent drainage—ideal for coffee growing.
The Santa Clara Estate sits at an altitude of approximately 1,600 to 1,830 meters and is managed by the Zelaya family, now in its fourth generation with over 100 years of farming experience. In addition to their dedication to quality, the family places great importance on environmental protection and sustainable practices. They plant shade trees to prevent direct sunlight on the coffee plants, maintain soil moisture, prevent erosion, and offer a thriving habitat for birds and other wildlife. The Santa Clara Estate has consistently achieved strong results in Guatemala’s annual COE competitions, making it a well-known star farm in the Antigua region.
