Guatemala’s coffee industry is highly developed. Familiar regions such as Antigua and Acatenango produce coffees with distinct characteristics. However, if you think Guatemala’s coffee is limited to only the eight major producing regions published by the Guatemalan National Coffee Association, then you’ll miss out on the brilliance of other Guatemalan coffees.

Guatemalan Town

Palencia is located about 50 kilometers north of Guatemala City and is part of the country’s metropolitan area. Although Spanish is the main language, Mayans, Garífunas, Xinca, and Ladina people make up the majority of the population. This region of the country has suffered from earthquakes and wars, enduring hardship and poverty. Coffee growers hope that by improving the quality of their crops, they can obtain better prices, improve their quality of life, educate their children, and invest in their communities.

Although Palencia is not one of the eight official coffee-growing regions designated by the Guatemalan National Coffee Association (Anacafé), the city of Palencia in the department (state) of Guatemala is widely renowned. Seventeen villages call this mountainous area home, where farmland crops are the main pillar. The area is highly suitable for coffee cultivation. The altitude, volcanic soil, and climate are all conducive to the development of specialty coffee.

Palencia Natural Process Coffee Beans are a top-tier naturally processed coffee from Guatemala. Its dry aroma features notes of wine, blueberry, peach, passion fruit, and floral scents. When sipped, you can taste sweet fruit flavors such as passion fruit, mango, blueberry, grape, berries, and peach, accompanied by an elegant wine-like aroma. The mouthfeel is rich, juicy, and layered with complex flavors. It’s like drinking fruit wine rather than coffee. Savoring such captivating coffee, it’s truly the coffee that doesn’t intoxicate you—it’s you who gets intoxicated by it.
