Western Gobi Park

Located southwest of Karamay city proper and accessible via National Highway 217, it is about 2 kilometers from downtown Karamay. It is a typical natural scenic area featuring desert landforms and also serves as a leisure and entertainment tourism destination.

Western Gobi Park integrates natural landscapes and cultural sites, including the two major scenic areas of Tuzigou and Ayikule. The park covers an area of 45 square kilometers, including a 25-square-kilometer natural vegetation reserve. Tuzigou is also known as the West Grand Gully. This gully was formed through hundreds of millions of years of crustal movement and is a north-south oriented eroded gully with hills, stretching 9 kilometers in length and 500–800 meters in width. Ayikule Reservoir is an artificial plain reservoir. The terrain of Tuzigou is rugged and uneven, with the gully bottom consisting of Gobi sandy soil and the gully walls made up of weathered sandstone remnants. The elevated terraces are dotted with timeless works of wind and rain — uniquely shaped rock formations.

The Ayikule scenic area offers recreational activities such as fishing, children’s play zones, beach volleyball, and boat tours. Since 2000, Karamay has hosted events at Ayikule annually, including the 100-Person Ayikule Swim, Dragon Boat Races, and Beach Volleyball Competitions.
