Karamay Museum

Karamay Museum is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Karamay Museum, originally named the Karamay Oilfield Mining History Exhibition Hall, is also known as the Karamay Mining History Museum or the Karamay Exhibition Hall. It is located at No. 22 Zhunge’er Road, Karamay District, Karamay City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. The construction of Karamay Museum began in the spring of 1982, and it was completed and opened to the public on July 13, 1983. Covering an area of 67,000 square meters, the museum has a built-up area of 2,800 square meters. It features five exhibition halls: Introduction, Hard Struggle in Early Development, Overcoming Difficulties, Reform and Development, and Leaping Forward. These halls showcase the journey of Karamay’s petroleum industry from its beginnings in 1909 to its rise as a leading industry.

The exhibition halls display historical photos, artifacts, specimens, reliefs, and charts. The museum grounds also include restored scenes such as offices and oil cellar dormitories. The museum has been open to the public free of charge since its establishment.
