Yinchuan Duobao Pagoda

Commonly known as Lijun Pagoda, Duobao Pagoda is located to the west of Lijun Town, approximately 24 kilometers southwest of Yongning County. The pagoda is an octagonal, pavilion-style brick structure with 13 tiers, standing 31.52 meters tall in total including the top and finial.

The first tier has an arched gate on the eastern side, 1.3 meters high and 0.65 meters wide. Some tiers feature arched windows and doors. The eaves between each tier are constructed with corbel bricks and dentil moldings, and wind bells were originally hung at the corners of each brick eave. The top finial base is octagonal, with a Buddhist niche in the center of each side, each enshrining a Buddha statue. Above the finial base sits a beaded-style spire body, crowned by a large, peach-shaped, pyramidal finial. The interior of the pagoda chamber uses a thick-walled, hollow wooden floor structure, with an inner diameter of about 2 meters. A wooden staircase once allowed visitors to ascend the pagoda spirally to the top.

The exact year of the pagoda’s construction is unknown, but inscriptions on the wind bells indicate that it was completed no later than the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. Lijun Pagoda was initially built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and underwent three major restorations between the 54th year of the Kangxi reign and the 59th year of the Qianlong reign in the Qing Dynasty. In 1986, the Autonomous Region Cultural Relics Management Committee carried out a comprehensive restoration of the pagoda.

During the 1986 restoration, a collection of precious cultural relics was discovered inside the finial, including 19 bronze statues, 1 pottery Buddha statue, 6 bronze mirrors, 7 ink-inscribed tablets, 1 copper-inscribed tablet, 2 volumes of scriptures, and a number of ancient coins.
