Shengjinguang

Shengjinguang is located at the southern foot of the Zhongning North Mountain, in the hilly area of the central Wei-Ning Plain. To the north, the landscape is rugged with undulating mountains and sprawling sand dunes. To the south flows the mighty Yellow River, winding eastward like a white jade ribbon. The Baotou-Lanzhou Railway runs between the mountains and the river. Beneath the pass lies a tunnel, and on the steep stone wall at the tunnel entrance are engraved three bold and upright characters: “Shengjinguang.” Here, mountains and rivers form a natural barrier with only a narrow passage, making it since ancient times a strategic military stronghold and a famous ancient battlefield.
