Liupan Tianchi, also known as Beilian Pool, Leize, Chaona Qiu, Beilan Pool, Beilian Lingqiu, and other names, is located in the Liupan Mountains, 20 kilometers northeast of Longde County. It is one of the sources of the Hulu River and the birthplace of Fuxi, the legendary human ancestor. Recognized as one of the ancient “Eight Scenic Spots of Longde,” it lies 13 kilometers from National Highway 312. Liupan Tianchi sits at an altitude of 2,530 meters, with a water surface spanning over 50 acres. The pool is surrounded by mountains on three sides, encircled by nine peaks, with towering, layered cliffs that are majestic and steep. Mists rise from the ridges, adding to its mysterious allure. Shaped like a gourd, the water is shimmering, crystal clear, and reflects the surrounding peaks, creating a dreamlike, fairy-tale scene. The tranquil environment and long history make it an ideal tourist destination where nature and culture blend seamlessly.

The county chronicles, in the section “Historical Sites,” record: “Beilan Pool is located in the Liupan Mountains, east of the county. The cliffs are extremely high and steep, and the pool lies halfway up the mountain. It is about fifteen or sixteen acres wide, and the flowing water produces sounds like silk and bamboo instruments—cool and pleasant to the ear. Waterfalls occasionally cascade down, stretching horizontally like white silk ribbons, with the embracing mountains forming the pool.”

On the north bank of Beilian Pool, there used to be the Temple of King Huize. In front of its mountain gate stood a pair of stone lions. Climbing 12 stone steps leads to the main hall, where King Huize is enshrined. Another 12 steps take you to the rear hall, which is slightly larger and houses several deities. A hexagonal stone incense burner is placed at the mountain gate and in front of each side hall. Inside the temple is a stone stele inscribed with the “Black Water Dragon King Temple Stele,” erected by Hutulu Sha during the Yuan Dynasty.
