Four South African cyclists set off from Cape Town, the country’s legislative capital, on December 30, 2011, beginning their epic 25,000-kilometer cycling marathon toward Singapore.
This extraordinary charity super-marathon will span two continents and pass through as many as 21 countries and regions. According to plan, the four cyclists will arrive in Singapore by the end of April 2012, aiming to raise funds for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and an infectious disease control center located in Cape Town.
The four cyclists are 28-year-old Juliane Taylor, her 25-year-old brother Shannon Taylor, her 59-year-old father Malcolm Taylor, and their family friend, 63-year-old Johan Beyers, who hails from Rondebosch, a southern suburb of Cape Town.
Malcolm Taylor, an experienced cyclist, said, “Doing something for the Red Cross was our best choice. The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town is doing everything it can to ease the suffering of young patients, and we hope our long journey will yield good results.”
