Hongya Old Lane Folk Village is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Hongya Old Lane, also known as Liupan People’s Hongya Folk Culture Village, is located in Hongya Community, Chengguan Town, adjacent to the Longde exit of the Qinglan Expressway, just 1 kilometer from the county seat, covering a total area of 200,000 square meters. In recent years, Longde County has delved deeply into the elements of Hongya Village such as its humanistic history, folk characteristics, and architectural style, integrated resources, and vigorously promoted tourism development. First, themed “A Millennium-Old County of Longde, A Century-Old Lane,” it retains the primitive features of the ancient village and the lifestyle and production scenes of its original residents, while deeply exploring the “workshop culture.” It has been transformed into attractions such as Old Lane Street, inns, teahouses, bars, an old opera stage, an old mill, and an old well. It has also developed nine operating households for calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting, and embroidery, one art gallery, and is striving to build a town of intangible cultural heritage. Second, guided by the concept of creating a “red tourism attraction and protecting a historic and cultural village,” it has built over 20 sites including Hongya Spring, the Ancient Bell Stone Steps, the Red Army Wall, the site of the Red Twenty-Fifth Army Vanguard Regiment Party Committee Meeting, the Red Army Small Square, as well as folk culture walls, landscape sculptures, shapes, and garden ornaments, allowing visitors to fully experience red revolutionary culture. Third, centered on the essence of “food” culture, it has built a snack square and developed 27 rural restaurants such as Old Lane Fuxu Dishes, Old Lane Farmhouse Stove, and Heyuan. Hongya Old Lane is an excellent destination to experience rural charm, understand folk culture, engage with agricultural production, and recall the sounds and nostalgia of hometown. It has been praised by tourists as the “No. 1 Village of Liupan Mountain.”

The village features an old lane that is 200 meters long and covers an area of 10,000 square meters, with 10 existing rural restaurant courtyards, as well as ancient rural buildings such as an old opera stage, an old mill, and an old well.

Before liberation, Hongya Village served several times as the command center for battles over the county seat of Longde. Battles such as the Song-Jin struggle for Deshun Prefecture, Genghis Khan’s capture of Deshun State, and Li Zicheng’s takeover of Longde City all saw armies camped and directing warfare from Hongya Village. In the autumn of 1935, the Red Twenty-Fifth Army passed through Longde during the Long March. Its vanguard troops camped in Hongya Village and held an expanded Party Committee meeting to study and plan their work, leaving a distinct mark of red revolutionary culture on the village.

In recent years, relying on the profound historical culture and unique architectural style of Hongya Village, Longde County has adopted the theme of “A Millennium-Old County of Longde, A Century-Old Lane” and the philosophy of creating a “red tourism attraction and protecting a historic and cultural village.” It has preserved the original features of the ancient village and transformed it into current attractions such as Old Lane Street, family inns, teahouses, bars, rural restaurants, an old opera stage, an old mill, and an old well. It has also built 20 sites including Hongya Spring, the Ancient Bell Stone Steps, the Red Army Wall, the site of the Red Twenty-Fifth Army Vanguard Regiment Party Committee Meeting, the Red Army Small Square, folk culture walls, landscape sculptures, shapes, and garden ornaments. Additionally, it has constructed over 10 new structures such as the entrance gate and parking lot, improved power supply and water drainage facilities, implemented greening and beautification projects, and truly enables visitors to experience a full range of rural activities — from eating farmhouse meals and staying in rural homes, to working the land, enjoying pastoral scenery, appreciating folk culture, listening to Red Army stories, and watching folk performances. Nowadays, stepping into Old Lane, the uniquely styled architecture and exquisitely beautiful rural scenery captivate visitors. Old Lane is becoming a place in Longde where people don’t want to leave once they arrive. The phrase “I’m waiting for you in Old Lane” has become the most resonant slogan attracting tourists.

According to the national standard and evaluation criteria for the classification and assessment of tourist attraction quality levels, after evaluation organized by the Guyuan City Tourist Attraction Quality Level Evaluation Committee, Old Lane has met the standards of a national 3A-level tourist attraction and has been designated as a national 3A-level tourist attraction.

In 2011, to strengthen the protection of the ancient village, our county renovated and transformed Old Lane, rebuilding some collapsed infrastructure such as the beacon tower and the east and west village gates, preserving the original architectural style as much as possible. Scattered throughout the lanes are farming tools such as rakes, plows, harrows, and forks, retaining traces of an agrarian civilization; stone mills, stone slabs, ancient wells, ancient willows, and old bells reflect the vicissitudes of a thousand-year-old lane; calligraphy and painting works, a stone plaque street, Tingyun Art Gallery, corridor paintings, the Zhang Family Calligraphy Collection, and Old Lane folk paper-cuttings showcase the charm of a land of art and calligraphy. Since opening to the public in 2017, Old Lane has been hailed as the most beautiful lane in Ningxia. Since its operation, it has received over 700,000 visitors, generating more than 7 million yuan in operating income.
