Jiatai Fort Red Army Meeting Monument

The Jiatai Fort Red Army Meeting Monument is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Jiatai Fort Red Army Meeting Monument was constructed in October 1996 to commemorate the victorious meeting of the three main forces of the Red Army during the Long March on October 22, 1936, and to mark the 60th anniversary of the Long March. The monument is situated on the eastern side within Jiatai Fort, standing 22.5 meters tall. On the front is engraved the sixteen golden characters “Monument to the Meeting of the Red Army during the Long March at Jiatai Fort” written by Comrade Jiang Zemin, while the back features an inscription composed by the XiJi County Committee and Government. The top of the monument is adorned with three sculpted heads of Red Army soldiers, symbolizing the meeting of the three main forces, and the lower part of the monument is decorated with eight bas-reliefs representing victories in the Chinese revolution.

In October 1996, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the meeting of the First, Second, and Fourth Front Armies of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army during the Long March, the Autonomous Region Party Committee and Government, with approval from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, constructed the Monument to the Meeting of the Red Army during the Long March at Jiatai Fort—the site where the First and Second Front Armies met. Then General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Jiang Zemin inscribed the name of the monument. The sixteen golden characters “Monument to the Meeting of the Red Army during the Long March at Jiatai Fort” are engraved on the front of the massive granite monument, which features sculptures of three Red Army soldiers symbolizing the meeting of the three main forces. The back of the monument carries an inscription by the XiJi County Committee and Government. The completion of this Long March meeting memorial not only honors the brave Red Army soldiers who sacrificed their lives, but also serves as inspiration for future generations. It will stand here for a long time, telling and spreading the red story to the world.

On July 18, 2016, after inspecting the Jiatai Fort Red Army Long March Monument in the rain, General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important speech in the memorial park, calling for remembering the martyrs, staying true to the original aspiration, and forging ahead on the new Long March. This has provided motivation, vitality, and confidence for us to continue on the new Long March and win the battle against poverty. In February 2017, the Autonomous Region Government approved the upgrading of Jiatai Township to a town to accelerate the development of the meeting site. Jiatai Fort embodies the great spirit of the Long March and was newly designated in April 2017 by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as a National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base. The Publicity Department required vigorous promotion of the red traditions of Jiatai Fort and the inheritance of the red gene, making it an important platform for patriotic education and revolutionary tradition education. Central, regional, and municipal leaders attach great importance to the development of Jiatai Fort, and have decided to build it into a secondary economic and social development center of XiJi County, supported by the implementation of projects such as a Red Tourism Town and a Peace Rose Town.
