The appearance of the "city" is an important symbol in the historical development of Chinese civilization. The construction of Guyuan City (Gaoping City) also reflects the progress and long-standing history of the regional civilization in Guyuan.

Guyuan City, located in the mountainous southern part of Ningxia, is a well-known historical and cultural city. The origins of urban development in Guyuan date back over two thousand years. The earliest was likely Wushi City, but the city that has been continuously developed and preserved to this day is the current Guyuan Ancient City, which has left behind numerous historical relics such as the Bell and Drum Tower, the Iron Pagoda of Yuwang Temple, and the Wenlan Pavilion.

This represents the final form of Guyuan City after 2,000 years of development and evolution. The model of Qing Dynasty Guyuan City restored by the Guyuan Museum is a historical microcosm of the ancient city. This grand brick-walled city, majestically situated in Yuanzhou, gained fame across the north and became a prominent city in northwest China since the Ming and Qing dynasties.
