Shagou Gongbei

Shagou Gongbei is located at the foot of a large mountain to the west of Shagou Village, Shagou Township, in the northeastern part of Xiji County. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The site is sloped, higher in the west and lower in the east, with lush vegetation. Numerous small brick and stone tombstones stand beside the graves. About 50 meters to the east of the Gongbei is a mosque.

Shagou Gongbei was first built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of over 300 acres with thousands of tombs, most of which are the burial sites of notable Muslims and scholars. In the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920), during the Haiyuan earthquake, Ma Yuanzhang, the seventh leader of the Jahriyya Sufi order, was tragically killed and was initially buried here (later relocated to Huanghuagang in Zhangjiachuan), making it a long-standing pilgrimage site for Muslims.
