DongjituoKa Temple

DongjituoKa Temple, known in Tibetan as "Dongjituo Ka Dan Ni Da Jin Lin," is located on Sairi Beach in Kequ Town, Gandê County, 12 kilometers from the county seat. In 1837, it was initially established as a tent monastery by Jamyang Khyentse Dorje of the Nyingma sect—Gabguan Angqian Jierjibuoduoje—and has since gone through five generations.

DongjituoKa Temple is a shared monastery of the Nyingma and Gelug sects. It currently has a two-story main prayer hall with 35 rooms, five circumambulation halls totaling 10 rooms, and covers a total construction area of 131 acres, with nearly 100 resident monks.

The front courtyard and the tall rear walls of the main prayer hall are adorned with colorful murals. These paintings feature exquisite designs, unique styles, and fine craftsmanship, rich in decorative effects and strong Tibetan Buddhist characteristics, leaving a profound impression on visitors. The monastery’s vast array of prayer flags and stone scripture walls—inscribed with mantras and Buddha images—form a distinctive natural landscape on the plateau.
