Zhigeer Monastery

Zhigeer Monastery is situated in Zhigexiuma Valley, Qingzhen Township, 98 kilometers from the county seat. It was founded in 1835 by Zangwa Oang Qudong Jiancuo and has seen leadership from eight generations of abbots: Zangwa Oang Qudong Jiancuo, Yunla-Tonglan, Yunla-Caire, Duola-Jiayang Nima, Gabu-Renqing Sangwu, Ashiga-Renzeng Jiancuo, Long Rounima, and Oang Yixiqijinima. Initially established as a tent monastery, it developed into a earthen-walled structure by 1994. In 1995, the monastery had 120 monk quarters, two scripture halls, two prayer wheel houses, one Buddha hall, two stupas, one kitchen, one living Buddha, two khenpos, and 72 monks. The monastery's followers are mainly distributed across Qingzhen Township and areas such as Dongqingou, Shangdawu, and the Milk Powder Factory in Maqen County.
