White Public Mountain

Introduction White Public Mountain is located in Huaitoutala Township, about 40 kilometers southwest of Delingha City, the capital of Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province. It is the most prominent peak in the northeastern area of Tosu Lake. The mountain is highly distinctive—when viewed from afar, it resembles a pyramid, giving off an air of mystery; from the side, it looks like a gorilla sitting and gazing at the blue lake; from the front, it takes the form of a cuesta, with steep cliffs standing over 200 meters high right by the lake. It is surrounded on all sides by deserts and swamps, with sand ridges and Gobi landscapes scattered throughout.

To the southwest of White Public Mountain lie two plateau lakes like dazzling pearls embedded in the landscape—one is called Tosu Lake and the other is Keluke Lake. Although the waters of the two lakes are connected by the Bayin River, their water qualities are distinctly different. The so-called alien site and the mysterious iron pipe-like objects, which have sparked much debate, are located in caves at the foot of White Public Mountain. Nearby, there is also China’s renowned astronomical observatory—the Purple Mountain Observatory.
