Ahetan Mosque

Ahetan Mosque is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Ahetan Mosque is located in Ahetan Village, Gandu Town, Hualong Hui Autonomous County, on the northern bank of the Yellow River. It was originally built in the third year of the Zhi Zheng era of the Yuan Dynasty (1323). Constructed by the ancestors of the Salar people who migrated here from the southern bank of the Yellow River, it was expanded during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty and still retains architectural styles from the Yuan and Ming periods. Covering an area of 2,000 square meters, it is composed of a prayer hall, scripture school building, minaret, memorial archway, and screen wall forming a rectangular courtyard. The screen wall faces the memorial archway-style mosque gate directly, with the wooden structure of the archway rising 6 meters high and featuring a unique style and grand presence. Across the top of the gate are inscribed five characters: "Recite, Pray, Fast, Donate, Pilgrimage." Passing through the gate, you’ll find a three-story, tower-like minaret standing 9 meters tall; at the center of the courtyard is the prayer hall, designed in a palatial style divided into front and rear sections of three rooms each, covering a total area of 540 square meters. On either side of the main hall and the minaret are the scripture school building and simple houses. All structures within the mosque preserve an ancient, original charm.
