Gongboxia

Gongboxia is located at the exit of the Yellow River outside Gandu Town in Hualong County. Originally known as Gushiqun Gorge, it later took its name from a Qingzhen archway built at the gorge's mouth. Within the gorge, two towering mountains stand opposite each other, creating a narrow river channel through which the water rushes with tremendous force, producing a thunderous roar that echoes across the surrounding peaks. On the northern bank of the gorge’s mouth lies a stretch of flat land where the ruins of an ancient city can be found—the site of the Han Dynasty’s Hanchuan City, surrounded by one of the five Han-era military farming zones, now fertile farmland dotted with gardens and orchards. This gorge also serves as the site of the fourth cascade hydropower station in the national-level upper Yellow River development plan. The power station has an installed capacity of 150 megawatts and generates an average of 5.14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
