Ruins of Baitu City The ruins of Baitu City are located in Qingquan Village 1, Zhongchuan Township, in the southern part of the county. Commonly known as Heicheng (Black City) or Danyang City, the site sits atop the highest point of the Zhongchuan Plateau, backed by mountains and facing a river. It lies at a strategic crossroads connecting all directions and boasts an open yet precipitous terrain. Legend has it that the generals of the Yang family built the city overnight here, hence the name Heicheng. Additionally, because the city lies against Phoenix Mountain to the north—so named for its red soil, situated in the northern part of Zhongchuan, with wings extending eastward and westward—it presents the appearance of a phoenix facing the rising sun, thus also earning the name Danyang City.
